Crayon Art 2/5

I wanted to try melting the crayons in a different way. Here I did not stick them to the canvas but I melted each piece on the canvas, letting the colours blend together. I am quite happy of the result. :)

Crayon Art: the art of melting crayons

A few months ago, while I was watching a Youtube video, I discovered a new art, which I thought was pretty cool. It is called Crayon Art. 

Usually people use crayons to draw or colour, especially for children. But after a while this could become boring especially when you become older. Also you might have bits of used crayons laying around in your house not knowing what to do with them.

So I decided to try this for myself and I was surprised by how little tools are needed to make these.

You will need only 4 items: 

- The canvas can be any size you want. 

- Try to buy the amount of crayons that will fit your canvas size.

- I suppose everybody has a hair dryer, but you can also use a hot gun if you have one, keeping in mind that if you choose to use the latter, the melting process will obviously be much faster.

- Any type of glue will do actually, but I recommend super glue or a hot glue gun.

You will also need to get old newspaper or plastic, something to cover your work surface in case the wax splatters. Cover also your wall if you are leaning the canvas against the wall. Also protect yourself, you do not want to receive hot wax on your skin ... ouch 

 Step 1: Pick the crayons you want to use and line them up on the top of the canvas like on the picture.

Step 2:  Glue each crayon on the canvas, then wait 5 - 10 mins  for the glue to dry.

Step 3: Place your canvas vertically against a wall with the crayons at the top. Take your blow dryer on high heat and blow on the crayons. I like to go from sections to sections but you can do all the crayons at the same time.

You will get something like this:

It took me more than an hour for all the crayons to melt. You can change the angle of your blow dryer if you want your wax to melt in a specific direction, or to mix colours. Let them melt the length you want and let it dry. 

And YOU'RE DONE !

  After doing this, you can try more creative setups and designs which can be very pretty !

P.S. I am going to do a series of 5 crayon art pieces, and I am going to attempt different techniques for each one.

Updates about the short film ZING

Clare Stone, the producer, directer and script writer of the short film Zing filmed last month, has decided to register her latest production to the famous student film awards :

the NaSTA Awards.

(NaSTA is the National Student Television Association in the United-Kingdom. It connects all student stations from all across UK but also provides them with a platform with advices.) 

And guess what ? 

Last weekend, Zing won the award for Best Light Entertainment !
